Clan Battle Techniques, Secrets, and Signals (WIP)

A tail flick can be used in many ways. It can mean, "Follow me", "I heard you", or even, "Be quiet!" Listed below are some different situations:

A sharp flick and an agitated expression usually means the cat is annoyed, irritated, or impatient.

A bristle and a sharp flick of your tail usually means, "Get over here now! I'm angry with you!"

A flick and jerking your head in a certain direction means, "Meet me to the bushes at your left" or "Sneak out
of camp with me through the brambles to the right."[source?]

If you call out to someone and their back is to you, they can flick their tail to show that they've heard.

Sticking your tail straight up in the air and flicking it sharply down means, "Sit!"

An eye-roll and a flick of the tail means, "Whatever."

A mrrow of laughter and a flick of a tail means, "That was a good joke."

Saying, "Oh, fox-dung, I gotta go!" and flicking your tail means, "Sorry! Talk to you later?" or "Yikes! I've gotta go use the dirtplace!"

Flicking your tail at a she-cat's belly and smiling means, "She's expecting kits!"

Flicking your tail at someone and making a face means, "What is wrong with him/her?"

A sharp flick of your tail during battle can mean two things; it can mean, "Attack!" or it can also mean, "Help me!"

A shrug followed by a tail flick means, "Oh well."

Putting a tail over another cat's mouth means "Shut up, mouse-brain!" when the flick/movement is sharp or "Please, quiet" when the cat is talking too much.

A flick in a certain direction can emphasize that they've got to go or look there.

A normal flick can just be caused in amusement.

A tail flick can be a way to vent anger or rage.

Sometimes a cat can flick their tail when about to say something funny or sarcastic.

A tail flick can also be executed in an arrogant, conceited, or contemptuous manner.

Anxiety is another feeling that can trigger stiff tail flicks.

Though many tail flicks occur in rash emotions, the tail can also be flicked happily.

A tail flick can mean the the cat is bored.

The tail can be flicked playfully on another cat's muzzle.

A flick executed in the air can change the direction the cat will land.

The need to protect can also be demonstrated by a tail flick.

A cat may flick his/her tail to prompt something.

The tail can be flicked in a proud manner.

A cat may also flick their tail when about to give them a lecture on what is right.

Eagerness can cause tail flicks as well.

- Emotional Tail Flicks -

There are several other motions that can be done with the tail. Listed below are some different situations:
Stroking another cat's spine or shoulder with the tail is a sign of affection or sympathy. Stroking on the cheek has the same meaning.
Lashing their own tail usually happens in times of anger. However, this can also be a sign of excitement.
Wrapping their tail around another cat shows affection or the need to protect. The tail can also be used to beckon another cat.
The tail can also show different emotions; a drooped tail, for instance, usually means the cat is sad.
When first starting to hunt, it is instinct to swish their tail, but in order to catch prey properly, the tail must be kept still.
Swishing their tail can mean that the cat is very excited and ecstatic. It can also be a sign of commencing an action or contemplating an important decision.
Lifting their tail up is a form of composure, just as we humans sit up to recompose ourselves.
The tail can be used to brush another cat away if they're not wanted. However, it can also be used for the opposite: to beckon a cat closer.
When a cat cares for another cat, he/she can smooth their fur with the brush of the tail.
A cat can whisk their tail when being conceited to show that they know everything.
Twitching their tail can be a sign that they are skeptical about something.
Crossly whipping their tail is a demonstration of anger.

Attack Crouch
(Similar to the Hunter's Crouch) Crouching down to leap out onto your enemy. This is the first thing an apprentice should learn, as it teaches balance.

Arched Back
Used to intimidate the opponent or to vent out anger.

Bushing Out Fur
Bushing out the fur makes them look twice as big as their enemies, and a frightened enemy is half-beaten.

Front Paw Blow
Frontal attack. Bring your front paw down hard on your opponent's head. Claws sheathed.

Roll Over
Used by rolling over to avoid an enemy's swipes or grip.

Duck and Twist
Simple defensive move. The you duck then twists around, rolling over onto your back, and then spring to your paws.

Front Paw Strike
Frontal attack. Slice downward with your front paw at the body or face of your opponent. Claws unsheathed.

Play Dead
Effective in a tight situation, such as when you are pinned. Stop struggling and go limp. When your opponent relaxes his grip, thinking you are defeated, push yourself up explosively. This will throw off an unwary opponent and put you in an attacking position.

Back Kick
Explosive surprise move to catch opponent from behind. Judge opponent's distance from you carefully; then lash out with your back legs, taking your front paws. This takes balance.

Tucking in the Tail
The less you give your enemy to hold on to, the better. This technique takes practice, as balancing with a tucked-in tail is tricky.

Killing Bite
Learned in Hunting; a death blow to the back of the neck. Quick and silent and sometimes considered dishonorable. Used only as a last resort.

Rear-up to Slash
To hurt opponents coming from the air, this move can be used to rear up on the hind legs and slashing at the enemy.

Leap-and-Hold
Ideal for a small cat facing a large opponent. Spring onto opponent's back and grip with unsheathed claws. Now you are beyond the range of your opponent's paws and in position to inflict severe body wounds. A group of apprentices can defeat a large and dangerous warrior in this way.
Watch for the Drop-and-Roll counter move, and try to jump free before you get squashed.

Partner Fighting
Warriors who have trained and fought together will often instinctively fall into a paired defensive position, each protecting the other's back while fending off an opponent on either side. Slashing, clawing, and leaping together, battle pairs can be a whirlwind of danger for attackers.
This is similar to the DarkClan Match-Up, but DarkClan has moves made specifically for the maneuver, while other Clans simply incorporate previously learned battle moves.

Belly Rake
A fight stopper. Slice with unsheathed claws across soft flesh of opponent's belly. If you're pinned down, the Belly Rake quickly puts you back in control.

Drop-and-Roll
Suddenly dropping and rolling to the side. Best used when being charged by another cat, or when you are rushing another; if you drop right, you can get in a Belly Rake before rolling away.

Scruff Shake
Secure a strong teeth grip in the scruff of your opponent's neck; then shake violently until he or she is too rattled to fight back. Most effective against rats or cats who are small enough to throw. A strong throw will stun or kill them.

Teeth Grip
Target your opponent's extremities - the legs, tail, scruff, or ears - and sink in your teeth and hold. This move is similar to the Leap-and-Hold except your claws remain free to fight.

Shoulder Drop
Grabbing the opponent's shoulders and then locking them against the ground. From here, the cat can do anything, such as churning their hind paws against their spine. This move takes both great speed and strength, as you must first get behind your opponent.
This move is typically used by DarkClan.

Upright Lock
Final, crushing move on already weakened opponent. Rear up on back legs and bring full weight down on opponent. If opponent does the same, wrestle and flip him under you. This move makes you vulnerable to the Belly Rake, so requires great strength and speed.

Half-Turn Belly Rake
Turn onto your side, slip under the opponent's belly, rake it with your claws, then swiftly turn back onto all fours out from under your opponent.
This is a move rarely used by the Clans, but AbyssClan has been seen using it quite artfully.

Badger Defense
Leap over opponent, turn on your back legs and bite opponent's leg. Used only when fighting badgers.

Whirlwind's Stance
Similar to Partner Fighting, and supposedly named after a warrior named Whirlwind.
Level One - Whirlwind's Stance
Team up with one or more other cats and stand flank-to-flank, each facing a different direction. As one, turn in circles, claws unsheathed, and take turns hitting and biting enemies.
Level Two - Whirlwind's Ring
With three or more in a group, an even number of cats defend an odd number of cats inside of the defensive circle. Cats on the outside ring of the Whirlwind will drag enemies into the inner ring of the circle for the odd number of cats within the circle to subdue without any outside interruption.

Whirlwind's Respite
When left alone in the midst of enemies, proceed to whirl around and around with all claws unsheathed, tail tucked in and back arched. Your claws will drive back your enemies and give you a moment or two to catch your breath, but this will not win a battle.

Head Smasher
DarkClanners are known for having large, furry paws.
When facing an enemy directly, rear up and clap your paws on either side of your opponent's head. This move will either disorient your enemy, or they will briefly black out.

The Charge
DarkClanners have broad shoulders and chests.
Run down a hill at top speed with your chin tucked close to your chest. Crash into enemies. Injuries vary.

Eagle's Flight
Eagle's Flight was developed in MoonClan as a way of being able to reach higher and farther since the cats of MoonClan are rather small.
This move requires two cats, one larger, one smaller. The smaller cat acts as the 'Eagle' while the larger acts as a ramp or springboard. In battle, the Eagle and the Ramp run with each other. Gradually, the Eagle slows or the Ramp picks up speed until he/she is at least three unspecified units of length away from the Eagle, directly in front of the Eagle. Abruptly, the Ramp will stop and stand in such a way that their neck and back line up as a ramp. The Eagle will run up the Ramp's back and leap - sometimes the Ramp will leap with the Eagle, giving the Eagle an extra boost - and the Eagle will "take flight!" This works marvelously as a surprise attack or even as an ordinary battle move, and is also used in hunting.
This move requires excellent judgement in distance, lift-needed and timing from both the Eagle and the Ramp.
